Penny Rug Day 1
Former owner of Amherst’s Country Rose Tea Room, Liz McGregor, multi-talented ex-Hollander, is an accomplished fibre artist in her own right. Liz will be teaching a 2-day class on making Penny Rugs, providing good instruction on her pre-cut patterns. If you are the type of person who always wanted to be able to do something unique, simple, but crafty this is probably the session for you. What’s required? Yourself, your questions, your desire to learn, and an appreciation for your new learned skill. Location is Holy Family Church, 63 Church St. Cost is $50, supplies included. Sewing in the Kitchen Scrap Buster Placement (FULL)
I am sure that if you are like most of us you accumulate plenty of bits and pieces of fabric! So we have come up with a great way to use them up! Why not join us in the kitchen for a fun da-y of sewing and make good use of scraps. Sewing in the Kitchen Scrap Buster Placemat class, sponsored by Sunrise Trail Quiltery and led by Joy Rector will take place Wednesday Oct 15th 9 am to 3 pm. Learn how to make a quilt as you go placemat. All fabrics will be provided. By the end of the day, the participant should be well on their way to completing two placemats. Please bring sewing machine, rotary cutter, pins, rulers, thread, scissors and lunch.
Along with all fabrics required, cutting mats, wool mats and irons will be provided.

Traditional Basket Weaving – Storage Basket with Closed Bottom
Join us for a hands-on basket weaving workshop where you'll create a beautiful and functional 6" high storage basket with a 12"x12" opening. In this five-hour session, you'll learn the fundamentals of traditional basket weaving, from preparing materials, choosing your colours to shaping and finishing your piece. Perfect for beginners and those looking to refine their skills, this workshop will guide you step by step to craft a sturdy, handmade basket to take home. Autumn in Amherst House Tour
In conjunction with the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival, the
Cumberland Care Hospice Palliative Care Society Board (aka the Hospice) (a
non-profit organization) is holding a House Tour fundraising event! So mark
your calendars, and contact your friends and family as the Hospice’s ‘Autumn in
Amherst’ throws open the doors to three lovely homes for viewing all decorated
with donated fibre art for display. Along the lines of past open houses in
which Amherst has been involved, these home owners take great pride in having
you view their homes knowing ticket proceeds will go towards a much needed
Hospice for Cumberland County. (They ask you bring a bag to place removed
footwear while viewing the homes.)
The Amherst homes are located at 9 Rupert Street, 113 Spring
Street, and 188 East Victoria Street.
Tickets are $15 and will be available towards the end of the
month at various locations, to be advised.
Friday
Victoria Quilts Luncheon and Raffle
Fundraiser from 11:30 to 1:30 at the Masonic Hall on Lawrence Street. Serving soup, rolls or biscuit with dessert, tea and coffee for $10. They will also have a craft table with sewing and quilting items for sale and will be selling raffle tickets on a beautiful queen size quilt. Tickets available at the door.
Victoria‘s Quilts is a non profit volunteer organization that loves to sew comfort quilts for people living with cancer.
The organization is run by dedicated volunteers. A few times a month the group gets together. We are always looking for new participants to join our group. In order to receive a comfort quilt gift a request can be made to 902 699 9876. Or 902 667 0564. Ask for Margo.
Crochet a Granny Pouch
Join the granny square craze, and make a granny pouch. This
simple design can be customized to any size. You can also choose to line it for
a sturdier end product. We’ll cover the basics of pattern reading - both
written and diagrams. Beginners welcome! Class takes place at the A&E Centre, 1-4 pm. Supplies are included, $40. Email kathryn@isletech.net to register.

Our Northport Rug Hooking Group has been active in Northport for over 25years. We meet every Monday from 10am til 2pm. We have folks joining us from all over the Maritimes and welcome any new face to our group. We hook in a variety of styles and in a variety of fabrics and textures. Cumberland Quilters Guild Quilt Show and Vendors: Sew Karen-ly Created, Spruce It Up Quilt Shop, Oh Sew Savvy Quilt Shop

Karen Neary’s Sew Karen-ly Created designs have been featured in numerous magazines and exhibited
around the world. Karen has contributed to 16 books, authored 2 of her own, and currently designs for
Island Batik fabrics. She knows the importance of good thread and has been a retailer for Aurifil for over
10 years. Sew Karen-ly Created patterns are sold in shops across North America, as well as from her
website. Karen will present a Pop-Up shop of her books, patterns and threads on Oct 17 and 18
at First Baptist Church, Amherst, as part of the 2025 Fibre Arts Festival.
Hook a Posey - Beginner workshop for 8 to 14 year-olds
Our Northport Rug Hooking Group has been active in Northport for over 25 years. We meet every Monday from 10am til 2pm. We have folks joining us from all over the Maritimes and welcome any new face to our group. We hook in a variety of styles and in a variety of fabrics and textures. You are sure to find something that interests you here with us.
We are sponsoring a beginner rug hooking class for 8-14 year olds at the Train Station in Amherst on Friday, October 17th from 5-8pm. All participants must be accompanied by an adult for this class.We will provide a pattern on backing, an embroidery hoop,a beginner rug hook and lots of fabric and yarns to complete the work. We will have hookers on hand for individual attention. Come and try rug hooking...make a mug rug or a small hooked heirloom. Cost is $5. The Golden Season: Goldenrod and Spruce Landscape - Deanne Fitzpatrick Studio (FULL)
Deanne Fitzpatrick is a renowned artist and writer who
believes that rug hooking and creativity deepens and enriches lives. She has
exhibited widely including two solo exhibits at The Art Gallery of Nova
Scotia. Deanne has written eight books,
received an honorary doctorate from Mount Saint Vincent University and was
awarded The Order of Canada for her contribution to advancement rug hooking as
an art form. This workshop includes admission to the workshop and the kit
containing all necessary materials, tea, coffee, and treats, and takes place at
the studio, 33 Church Street. Cost is $199. Register by contacting 902-667-0560
