2009 Day 2: Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival

Wednesday October 14 at the 2009 Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival kicked off in high gear.  Deanne Fitzpatrick was joined by Doris Eaton at the Parish Hall of Christ Church to present a 3 day workshop entitled, "Hooking in an Impressionistic Style".  As always, Deanne's workshops filled to the brim with folks from all over the world in attendance.

Although the brochure only shows one workshop by Karen Neary on Friday, that one filled quickly and the Cumberland Quilt Guild ended up booking her for a second one after the brochures were printed.  "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" was held Wednesday in the Ralston Room of First Baptist Church.

Just up the street were all kinds of quilts displayed at Dayle's Department Store. 

Doreen from Dayle's Department Store ordered in an entire new fabric collection from Northcott for their festival special, and had a quilt on display made from this fabric.  Their Dry Goods department was kept extra busy that week!

At noon time, festival goers were treated to an hilarious Brown Bag Theatre production of "The Hooker and the Handyman". (Dare we say attendees were suitably left "in stitches"?)

Following this, a free workshop on Primitive Rug Hooking was taught by Donna Farrell at Maggie's Place.

That evening, Phyllis Cameron presented a fibre collage workshop where participants created scarves.

Planning, Planning, Planning!

The Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival planning committee met again last evening, and it's exciting to see how things are coming together. This year's festival will be held October 10-14 (2023) here in Amherst. Applications are being accepted for fibre arts related workshops, displays, demonstrations, etc. until April 15, and we'd love to hear your ideas. You can download the application form here:

Pin-It Draw

The Festival Society of Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit organization which coordinates the annual Fibre Arts Festival each October in Amherst. There are many, many volunteers who work together and contribute long hours to make the festival be the success it is. One of the most exciting things taking place this year is a Pin It draw;  each $10. ticket (which comes with a festival pin) gives you a chance to win some exquisite hand made items...and the grand prize of a trip for two to New York City!

Generously donated by Amherst's fabulous new quilt shop  Mrs Pugsley's Emporium, the trip is part of Showcase Productions annual Christmas on Broadway tours:

Showcase Productions Theatre Tours has been sharing the excitement of “Christmas on Broadway” with Atlantic Canadians for 24 years, transporting you to an exciting world of culture, fashion and wonderment. Pin It tickets are currently available at Mrs. Pugsley's Emporium;  during the festival they will also be available at several locations including Festival Headquarters (Town Hall).  The ticket includes a guide with artist information for the various displays on the downtown walking tour. The draw for the prizes will be made at the close of the festival on October 18, with the trip taking place November 16-23, 2014.  Make sure you get a ticket to get in on the fun!
